Summer magic in a hot-pink ring. A captive, kinetic gold sphere glides smoothly around the perimeter of a glamorous star ruby. As you tilt your hand to roll the ball, the gleaming reflection of a 6-pointed star within the ruby moves with you. If Barbie wanted a statement fidget ring, this might be it.
Star rubies are a stunningly unique gemstone, almost kinetic in themselves. As the gemstone is formed, cooling titanium atoms align themselves in 3 directions. This forms needle-like crystals in the stones molecular structure, which reflect light to create the "moving" 6-pointed star visible in the sun. This phenomenon is called "asterism." Star rubies can occur naturally, or be lab created.
